Who is God?
There is only one God: He has always existed and He never changes. He made the entire universe from nothing, so it follows that His power is unlimited, and He governs His universe as He decides. Although there is only one God, He exists in three distinct but equal persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Don’t worry if there are things about God you cannot understand. When you think about it, how could anyone possibly understand everything about God? However there are many things we do know about Him because He has told them to us and they are recorded in the Bible.

What is the Bible?
Every word in the Bible has been inspired by God who moved its human authors to write. That is why we call it the word of God. It is why it is a completely true and reliable revelation of God’s mind, will and purposes. It is also why, when the Bible has something to say about anything it is the final authority.

Is God interested in people?
God created all men and women in his image to love and worship Him. He made all human beings equal in dignity and worth. Because we have sinned, that is, because we have rebelled against God by breaking His laws we have all incurred His wrath and been cut-off from Him. Worse than that, our nature is so badly corrupted by sin that we are incapable of ever pleasing God. Never the less, God is still interested in people. We are told that He loves men and women and that He is merciful and gracious toward them.

Who is Jesus Christ?
The Lord Jesus Christ is God. When He was born in Bethlehem two thousand years ago He took the form of a man. He lived a sinless life in perfect obedience to His Father, was crucified, suffered and died. When He died He bore God’s wrath to pay the penalty for our sins and reconcile us to God. He rose again from death and ascended to heaven where He now rules as Lord over all.

What does it mean to be saved?
God reconciles sinners to Himself through the death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus death as our representative and substitute was the only thing that could satisfy God’s justice so that He can show mercy to those who deserve to suffer His wrath. All who turn away from their sin and turn to God to trust and obey Him receive His forgiveness and are declared righteous in his sight. They are set free from the grip sin has on their nature, adopted into God’s family, given eternal life and progressively changed to become like the Lord Jesus. In other words they are not only saved from the punishment they deserve they are also saved from all the effects of their sin and the power it has over them. This is all God's work and is totally unearned. Our standing before God cannot be improved by anything that we can do but depends only on what Jesus did for us. Sometimes instead of saying that someone has been saved we say that he is born again. This is because when someone is saved God gives him or her a new nature.

Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit has been sent from heaven to make Jesus known and to apply His work of salvation. His influence convicts people of their need to be saved and enables them to turn to God in trust and obedience. He enables people to understand the Bible, gives assurance to those who are saved and produces Christ-like character and behaviour in them. He builds up the church and empowers its members to worship God and proclaim the good news — the gospel — about salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. Without the Holy Spirit none of these things would be possible.

What is the Church?
There is one universal church of which each local church is a part. The church is made up of all those people who have been saved. It is described in the Bible as the body of Christ because it is through the church that He works in the world today. The church is called to worship God and tell others throughout the world about Christ and His kingdom.

What does the Bible tell us about the future?
One day — we do not know when it will be — the Lord Jesus Christ will return to the earth. He will raise all who have died. After that all who have been saved will be welcomed into the presence of God forever, while those who have not been saved, together with a finally defeated Satan, will be sent to eternal punishment in Hell. The Lord Jesus will then establish His eternal kingdom where He will reign with perfect justice.
